Senate Appropriators Look To Increase Navy Shipbuilding With Third Destroyer, Start Of Second SSN

The Senate appropriators’ fiscal year 2025 defense spending bill, voted out of committee Thursday, funds Navy shipbuilding at $37 billion, $3.4 billion over the Biden administration’s request with a focus on adding a destroyer and starting to work on a second submarine. The bill would specifically fund seven new battle force ships including three Arleigh Burke-class destroyers (DDG), one Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), one Virginia-class attack submarine (SSN), 1 Constellation-class frigate, 1 San Antonio-class LPD amphibious transport dock ship,…
