Canada Plans To Buy 12 New Subs As It Climbs To NATO Two Percent of GDP Defense Spending Benchmark

The Canadian government recently announced it is taking steps towards buying 12 new conventionally-powered under-ice capable submarines as it plans to increase defense spending to the NATO target of two percent. While Canada’s Minister of National Defense, Bill Blair, was in Washington, D.C. for NATO’s 75th anniversary meeting, the government announced on July 10 its Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP) will work towards acquiring a larger and modernized submarine fleet.
